How accurate is this?Under 20 ms is excellent, 20–50 ms is good for gaming, 50–100 ms is fine for browsing and calls, and anything over 150 ms feels slow. Ping depends heavily on how far you are from the server.
| Ping | Experience |
|---|---|
| < 20 ms | Excellent — competitive gaming |
| 20–50 ms | Good — online games, calls |
| 50–100 ms | Okay — browsing, streaming |
| > 150 ms | Laggy — noticeable delay |
Idle ping is measured while your line is quiet; ping under load is measured during downloads and uploads. A big jump between the two is called bufferbloat, and it causes lag when someone else on your network is streaming.
Wi-Fi adds delay and retries, especially through walls or on crowded 2.4 GHz channels. Move closer to the router, switch to 5 GHz, or use a network cable.
Not directly. A fast line can still have high ping if the server is far away or the router is congested. Bufferbloat makes ping rise when the line is busy.
