How accurate is this?We open several parallel connections to the nearest server, grow the transfer size until each request lasts about a second, discard the warm-up, and report the sustained throughput — total data received ÷ time — with a 95% confidence interval.
Most home connections — DSL, cable and many fibre plans — are asymmetric: providers allocate more capacity to download because that is what most people use.
